You may use the periodic Table of the Elements. Feel free to discuss your answers with your neighbor. Be sure to assess your "confidence level" for each question; 5=very confident, 1=not at all confident.
  • Introduction:
    • Scientists have identified more than 100 different elements, which are organized into a "Periodic Table." This table often shows the atomic number and the atomic mass of each element, as well as its name and symbol. The columns are organized to show elements with similar properties. For example, carbon and silicon are in the same vertical column, so if carbon and oxygen react to make CO2 (carbon dioxide), then it should be no surprise that silicon and oxygen also react to make SiO2 (silicon dioxide, or sand).
